Exclusive for those who create a Rakuten Drive account with Rakuten ID: Photo Backup to the Cloud!
The Photo Backup feature allows you to create a duplicate copy of your files for restoration on Rakuten Drive cloud storage. By automatically storing duplicate data online, you can easily restore your data even if you accidentally delete files from your device or if the system is damaged.
This Photo Backup feature is only available for iOS and Android apps and applies to photos and videos saved in the basic photo app on your device. Photos and videos backed up to Rakuten Drive cloud can also be viewed on the PC web (rakuten-drive.com).

※ The above size is the maximum size for a single file. (Due to iOS limitations, the maximum size of single files that can be backed up is up to 5GB.)
※ The maximum amount of data that can be backed up follows the free space on "My Drive". (▶️ See My Drive capacity)
How to Get Started
1. Log in to Rakuten Drive with your Rakuten ID.
1) Select Log in with Rakuten ID button.
2)You will be redirected to the Rakuten site.
3) Enter your login details of Rakuten.
※ If you are unable to log in, please refer to this article.
2. Tap Enable Backup from the top of the Photos tab in the Home menu.
▶️ If you want to backup only photos or videos: Settings >> Backup >> Select Backup Items
3. The message Backup Completed will be displayed.
4. The folder "モバイルバックアップ" has been created in the Cloud menu, [My Drive].
▶️ To facilitate the backup of many files, Rakuten Drive automatically initiates the backup process for new files when you navigate to the Home menu with the Photo Backup feature enabled.
※ Due to network instability, Photo Backup may disable automatically. Please wait a while and enable it again to continue. Also ensure you are using the latest Mobile App.
⚠ Note
- This feature is only available to users who have created a Rakuten Drive account using Rakuten ID. (※ Note: For security reasons, you cannot change your email address on Rakuten Drive.)
- Existing Rakuten Drive users will need to log out and log back in to activate this benefit. (※ For iOS users, please close and reopen the app to activate this feature if it's not working.)
- The backed-up files will be saved in a folder called "モバイルバックアップ". (If a folder with this name already exists, it will be used as the destination for automatic backups.)
- If you run out of storage space (My Drive capacity) during backup, a message will be displayed. The backup will be paused at this point but will not be canceled.
- Due to the nature of iOS, uploads will be interrupted when the app goes into background mode for security reasons. Please make sure that your device will not be locked while the upload is in progress.
- Due to technical limitations on iOS, back ups will happen in batches of up to 200 files or 5 GB. It may take time between uploads as Rakuten Drive prepares the next batch.
- By default, Photo Backup feature requires a Wi-Fi connection, but this can be adjusted to allow on mobile data connection.
- Open app >> Settings >> Backup >> Toggle the "Allow Backup Using Mobile Data" setting
Why won’t my photos backup?
- If the photos or videos have already been backed up to a different Rakuten Drive account, or if they have been deleted from Rakuten Drive account, the files will be displayed on the home screen as already backed up. Even if you switch accounts, these files will not be backed up again as long as you are using the same mobile device. Please refrain from using multiple accounts to back up data on the same mobile device.
How to disable the Photo Backup Feature
1. Log in to the Rakuten Drive mobile app using your Rakuten ID.
2. Tap the Settings menu.
3. Tap Backup.
4. You can disable Enable Photo Backup.
